Site Furniture In Cities

One of the things that can be quickly overlooked is the small details that make a city have a certain feel to it. These small touches can go unknown by those not working in city planning or site design, but without the correct placement or design of these features, they would stick out clearly against the overall design and feel of the city.

Site design has expanded in importance and prominence over the previous few decades, when lots of cities really started to take an active role in the design and planning of the elements that went into the of the place. This began as some of the more cutting edge cities really thought of what feel and look they hoped for in the city. Many started with the obvious targets such as parks or landscape design, but city planning today has expanded further than this, and now focuses on maintaining the feel of the city throughout the furniture and smaller elements.

The term site furniture refers to almost any furniture that is in a public or institutionally public place. This may be things like benches, bus stops, bike racks and others. These products are functional, but many city leaders and planners are noticing the possibility of the beauty and the aesthetic charm that could be unleashed through the proper use of these products.
